SL銀河

JR東日本が東北復興の願いを込めて東北・岩手に復活させた「SL銀河」の内外装デザインを担当しました。
この地を代表する文学者・宮沢賢治の描いた「銀河鉄道の夜」の舞台とされる釜石線を走るSL銀河は、大正ロマンの洒落と粋、そしてそこに生きる人々の息吹や文化が感じられる沿線の工芸品や食材もデザインに取り入れ、広く岩手の文化を体感できる列車です。
内装には難燃性の高い素材で木材のぬくもりや質感を表現するなど多くの課題と取り組み、現代を走る銀河鉄道を再現しました。外装は星座や沿線の動物をイメージした真鍮製の切り絵を施し、車外から見ても楽しく美しい列車です。
Both exterior and interior design of JR East “SL GINGA -Railway to the Stars” were produced by KEN OKUYAMA DESIGN.
The train is designed with a motif of “Night on the Galactic Railroad” by Kenji Miyazawa.
The design of the train is inspired by the idea of fancy “Taisho-Roman”, as well as craftwork and food cultures along the railways, so that the visitors can experience cultures of Iwate prefecture even on the train.
How to express the warmth and texture of wood by using fire resistant materials, and how to represent the Galaxy and the night sky on the train…we are going to produce the modern Galaxy Express.
